Matius
Shan-Boone
He was born in Magelang, an small city in Central Java, on 1985. He started his bachelor study in composition with Otto Sidharta and Bernd Asmus at Pelita Harapan University in 2004. He was appointed as Head of Composition Department at his alma mater university from 2009 until 2011. He was active as lecturer in some institutions like Institut Musik Indonesia and Cantata Institute of Art. He conducted some ensemble and orchestra like University of Pelita Harapan Orchestra (2008-2009), Jatinegara Youth Ensemble (2009-2012), Gereja Kristus Yesus Pluit and Gereja Kristus Yesus Grenville Ensemble (2011-2013)

As composer, he already won some international competitions and got some commission from big institutions. His works are performed in many festivals around the world such as Yogyakarta Contemporary Music Festival 2008 and 2010, Manila Composer Lab 2010, Gaudeamus Festival 2010, Singapore Art Festival 2011, Blurred Edge Festival Hamburg 2014, Ryogoku Art Festival 2015, Wien Modern 2016. His work are already presented by some well-know ensemble like Asian Contemporary Ensemble, Ensemble Mosaik, Ensemble Gendhing, Ensemble Kyai Fatahilah, Ensemble Platypus, and also orchestra like Jakarta City Philharmonic.

In 2016 he finished his Master Study with DAAD Scholarship at Lübeck Music University with Dieter Mack. He will pursue his Doctorate in University of Birmingham (UK) with scholarship from Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education in January 2017 under Michael Zev Gordon.

His music deals with notion of dualism, contradiction, opposition, and irony existing in certain circumstances that are being translated into musical realisation. Some of his recent composition concepts tend to explore all of these elements with the connection of repetition as common phenomena found in this world. In 2017, he will write new work as part of commission to work with Ensemble Multilateral and his piano music “6 views from my window“ will be published by Universal Edition.
